Group Descriptions - Lightning Fast Swim Series

Lightning Fast 1 (4 - 6 years old)

In Lightning Fast 1, swimmers will learn the fundamentals of floating, kicking and exhalation. Swimmers will master kick on a board, kick on their back, as well as streamline floats and pushoffs. Swimmers will be introduced to freestyle stroke fundamentals like head and body position, as well as breathing. Coach to swimmer ratio is a maximum of 1:5. Requirements: Comfortability in shallow water without a parent present. 

Recommended days per week: 1

Ages: 4-6

Practice duration: 30 minutes/session 

Coach in water: Yes


Lightning Fast 2 (4 - 6 years old)

In Lightning Fast 2, swimmers will continue to build their freestyle & backstroke swim and will be introduced to various skills including dolphin kick, breaststroke kick and somersaults. Swimmers will start to swim independently from their coach with assistance of equipment. Coach to swimmer ratio is a maximum of 1:5. Requirements: Completion of Lightning Fast 1 or demonstrates abilities consistent with group expectations.

Practice duration: 30 minutes/session

Lightning Fast 3 (5 - 8 years old)

In Lightning Fast 3, swimmers continue to refine their freestyle and backstroke technique, and will be also introduced to breaststroke swim. Foundations of all four kicks will be practiced regularly. Level 3 also includes an introduction to somersaults and diving, helping swimmers build confidence towards competitive swimming. Swimmers will practice without a coach in the water. Coach to swimmer ratio will be a maximum of 1:8. Requirements: Completion of Lightning Fast 2 or demonstrates abilities consistent with group expectations.

Swimmers will be invited to join our Lightning Fast Race days in this level. 

Recommended days per week: 1-2.

Ages: 5-8

Practice duration: 45 minutes/session 

Coach in water: No


Lightning Fast 4 (6 - 9 years old)

In Lightning Fast 4, swimmers will build on all four competitive swimming strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle). Additionally, turns and dive skills are refined to help swimmers build confidence in competitive swimming. Swimmers will work on building endurance across all four types of kick and refining their technique across all four strokes. Swimmers will be introduced to using the pace clock. Coach to swimmer ratio will be a maximum of 1:8. Requirements: Completion of Lightning Fast 3 or demonstrates abilities consistent with group expectations. 

Swimmers will be invited to join our Lightning Fast Race days in this level. 

Recommended days per week: 2-3.

Ages: 5-8

Practice duration: 45 minutes/session 

Coach in water: No


Lightning Fast 5 (6 - 10 years old)

In Lightning Fast 5, swimmers will continue to build their skill and endurance across all 4 strokes while implementing dives and turns into their practices. Swimmers will be focusing on skill refinement and endurance across all four strokes and kick types, while introducing short amounts of speed. Swimmers will be expected to learn how to use the pace clock during practice. Coach to swimmer ratio will be a maximum of 1:10. Requirements: Completion of Lightning Fast 4 or demonstrates abilities consistent with group expectations. 

Recommended days per week: 2-3.

Swimmers will be invited to join our Lightning Fast Race days in this level. 

Ages: 6-10

Practice duration: 1 hour/session
